| John Ralph who later becomes the Postal Clerk in Ottawa had a part-time job as Assesor for the city of Toronto at 21 years of age for the St Thomas Ward. ( His fulltime job was: "Clerk, CB Robinson"). The next year, 1887, he moves out of the house to Ottawa and gets married there. How the bride and groom meet isn't known. Marriage MS Reel #2 Reg# 2319. The directory for Ottawa for 1888-89 lists the Albion Hotel as his residence ( see page 66). In 1889, he is at 382 Albert St., in Ottawa. The landloard is W.J. Smyth - his father-in-law ? Years later, his reputation must have assisted his son Harry Ralph who gets a summer job sorting the mail aboard the post office trains that ran between Toronto and Ottawa. John Ralph died at an early age: 41 exactly one year to the day before his father, John Harrison. John Ralph is buried at Beechwood Cemetary, Ottawa ( Section 41 Lot 52). Ontario Death Reg# 1847. But in the death record ( see MS 937 Reel #2 Reg#1847, his address is listed as 97 Gloucester in Toronto which isn't consistent with his known residence in Ottawa.
