| It could not have been easy for the young family in 1895. With Harry not quite 3, and Evelyn just 5 months old, their eldest child Lilian dies in March. Lillian was named for John's favourite sister. The young family lived primarily in the "Glebe" district of Ottawa - so called because of the area's original attachment to the Presbyterian Church. Today, Glebe is a fashionable neighbourhood of politicians and the well-to-do, but early Glebe was without paved road surfaces, sidewalks and practically rural. In December of 1897, a fourth child is born: Hugh Basil Morton - named for his father's youngest brother Hugh - who had died a year earlier in Toronto at only 6 years of age. After the death of her husband John in 1907, Elizabeth and her children Evelyn, Hugh and Harry move from Third Ave home (1901: City of Ottawa Directory) to 72 5th Avenue (telephone # CARLING 4493-W); 514 Bay(telephone # CARLING 5637-W) in 1929, and 353 Frank (telephone # 3-1080) in 1950.
